This is the heart of the Steamers.
Every Tuesday at 6:45pm, we meet at Stanton Recreation Ground and head out together for a relaxed, social 5K run. It’s the one run you can rely on every single week—whatever the weather.
Our routes are fixed and change with the seasons, so you’ll always know roughly what to expect. Light summer evenings, darker winter loops—it’s all part of the rhythm.
This isn’t about pace or PBs. It’s about turning up, getting out, and running together.
You can expect a friendly, steady pace, plenty of chat, and a regroup along the way so no one gets left behind. Whether you’re just starting out or have been running for years, there’ll always be someone to run with.
Just turn up and join in 👍
Sunday Long Runs (…or how they usually happen!)
Our Sunday long runs aren’t always planned weeks in advance… in fact, more often than not, they start with a simple message:
“Fancy a run in the morning?”
Next thing you know, there’s a small group heading out across the Suffolk lanes, turning a casual idea into a proper long run.
Distances usually range anywhere from 10K up to 10 miles (and sometimes beyond), with a relaxed, social pace and plenty of chat along the way.
No pressure, no expectations—just turn up if it suits you.
That’s the Steamers way 👍
You’ll often spot the Steamers out in force at local parkruns, including:
Whether you’re chasing a time or just enjoying a social 5K, there’s usually a friendly face (or a whole pack of them!) to run with.
Top tip 💡
If you’re a regular at Bury St Edmunds (Nowton Park), West Stow Country Park, or Brandon Country Park, it’s well worth looking into a parking season ticket—it can save you a fair bit over time.
Run Breckland are a local event organiser running friendly, accessible races in and around the Breckland area. Their events are suitable for a wide range of abilities and are a great step from social running into organised events. Follow them on Facebook for updates and use TicketSource to view and enter upcoming races.
Fields & Forest organise trail and countryside running events, typically over longer distances than our weekly social runs. The events are organised by Colin, who also runs with Stanton Steamers, so you’ll often see familiar faces taking part. They’re a great option for runners looking to step up to longer challenges in a relaxed, supportive environment. Visit their website for upcoming events, routes and entry details.
Total Race Timing work with local running clubs and race organisers to support the delivery of grassroots running events. They provide race timing and results services for a range of local races, helping organisers run events smoothly and giving runners clear, accurate results on the day.
