Our summer route is a friendly, scenic loop that takes in some of Stanton’s best paths, lanes, and woodland sections — ideal for a relaxed social run.
We start and finish at the Recreation Ground, heading out onto Fordhams Close before making our way up Bury Lane, passing the bowls club as we leave the village behind. From there, we head through Bluebell Wood, which is a real highlight of the route, especially on lighter summer evenings.
At the end of the wood, we turn left onto Wyken Road and make our way up the hill to the junction. This is our halfway catch-up point, where we pause briefly to make sure everyone is together before heading back.
Once regrouped, we head back down Wyken Road and then run up through Fairy Wood, bringing us back onto Bury Lane. From there, we follow the route back through Fordhams Close and finish where we started at the Recreation Ground.
It’s a roughly 5 km route with a mix of road and trail, a gentle hill, and plenty of time to chat along the way. As always, it’s completely inclusive — no one gets left behind.
Our winter route keeps things well-lit and close to the village, making it ideal for darker evenings while still offering plenty of variety and interest.
We start from the Recreation Car Park, heading out through the main entrance and turning right onto Old Bury Road as we make our way into the village. As we pass All Saints’ Church, we go by the war memorial, before reaching the bus shelter near the Co-op. Here, we turn right and head up Upthorpe Road, passing Stanton Primary School and the windmill.
From Upthorpe Road, we keep left into Grove Lane and continue up the hill. At the top, outside FLP Motors, we take our halfway catch-up stop, giving everyone a chance to regroup before heading on.
Once everyone’s together, we carry on along Upthorpe Road, looping back towards the village. Just after Stanton Primary School, we turn left and run along Windmill Green, picking up the footpath past Field Court. This brings us out onto Wyken Road, where we turn right, then left at The Cox Inn onto Bury Road.
From there, we pass the old school, turn into Fordhams Close, and follow the route back to the Recreation Car Park, finishing where we started.
Because we’re running on winter evenings, we strongly recommend dressing to be seen. High-visibility or reflective clothing really helps, and a head torch or chest light is a great idea, especially for the footpath sections and lanes. Many of us run with lights in winter — it’s completely normal and helps everyone feel more confident.
The winter route is around 5 km, mostly on roads and well-used footpaths, with a steady hill but no rush and no pressure. As always, we regroup along the way and make sure no one is left behind.
Just turn up and run. đź’™
